Part One:  Newspaper Jobs Vs Blog Jobs

As expected, many newspaper jobs are vanishing faster than ever before. It has become such a big problem that a website called “Paper Cuts” was created to address the issue.

Just how bad are the newspaper job losses? Pretty bad to really bad, depending which part of the country you happen to be living in. The problem is newspaper cater to those who are disinterested in getting their news online or simply unwilling to learn how to join the rest of us in the 21st Century.

The stats thus far demonstrate just how grim the job sector truly is with regard to newspaper jobs. How bad is it really? According to Paper Cuts…

2007 - 2,185+ jobs were cut throughout the US.

2008 - 15,586+ jobs cut with the worst hit being in the Midwest and the East coast.

What is truly unfortunate is the number of office staff that have had to look for new work, but are struggling with finding a new job as  clearly, this is not really a “growth” industry. No, clearly the future of information is online whether it be from professional writers working for large clearing houses or even as a work-alone blogger giving thoughts and opinions on the latest news.

Blog jobs may end up winning in the long run.

Because I know people affected by this specifically, it pains me to suggest that for now, blog jobs are going to trump those found writing for a local newspaper. The fact of the matter is whether you work for yourself or whether you happen to be working for others, blog jobs will be here to stay.

The trick of course, is figuring out if it is worthwhile to work for other people or simply start off going at it by yourself. If you can manage your own website with publishing tools like WordPress, you will be more successful in the long run going it alone. Unfortunately, until you learn where your audience is, this may not be an option for many of you.
